Ellacor is a completely new and unique treatment utilizing microcoring technology.
For decades, punch biopsies have been used to remove a small portion of skin that looks suspicious for cancer. The small deficit which remains usually requires a suture to close the wound. Ellacor uses the same principle, but the deficit is ~0.5mm, small enough that it will heal on its own without visible scarring. The provider chooses the depth of the cores which is dependent on the patient’s skin thickness and the area of the face being treated. Also, the percent of the skin treated is variable and ranges from 5-8%, and that is dependent on degree of correction needed. It is recommended to have 2-3 treatments for best results. At present, the areas cleared for treatment is from just below the boney cheek to the jawline, including the area above the lip, nasolabial folds, and chin. Research is being conducted on the neck and other areas of the body.
Ellacor is a treatment to improve laxity and skin texture in the mid and lower face. It is ideal for mild jowling, lip lines, and laxity along the jawline.
Ellacor is only approved for skin types 1-4 and not recommended for patients with a propensity for scarring.
The procedure begins with numbing injections using a cannula. This takes about 5-10 minutes. Additional injections are sometimes performed around the mouth to ensure comfort during the procedure. After about 15 minutes, the Ellacor procedure is started and there is zero or minimal (1-2/10) discomfort. The treatment time is 20-30 minutes and is followed by nurses removing any remaining cores in the tissue. LED therapy is performed to improve downtime and results. Applying healing creams and occlusive ointment complete the procedure.
For the next 48 hours, there is mild swelling with minimal to no tenderness. An occlusive ointment is required to expedite healing. The cores gradually close and heal. Studies have shown that after 72 hours, patients can resume all normal activities, including social events, with make-up.
