Sculptra is different from most other dermal fillers in that it is a collagen stimulator. It contains PLLA, or poly-L-lactic acid. This works in the dermis layer of the skin, stimulating the tissues to create new collagen that helps tackle the effects of aging. Its effects can last for a long time, especially compared to other injectables. Many patients have seen its results remain for as long as over two years, whereas some other injectables can only last months.

How Sculptra Works

Sculptra can be effectively used to smooth out wrinkles and contour a patient’s face. The way Sculptra works is what makes it such an excellent solution for aging-related issues.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra is injected deep into the skin tissues. Other dermal fillers are injected just below the wrinkle or fold. Sculptra, however, is administered all the way into the dermal layer.

The PLLA in Sculptra creates a new collagen structure in the skin, which helps in bringing new volume to the skin. This volumizing effect works over a large area for overall contouring as well as spot wrinkle reduction.

Usually, it is injected over a period of four sessions with a gap of around three weeks between each. The injection process is quite simple and does not require any downtime afterwards, allowing patients to return to their daily schedule.
