A new 10 year study on the effectiveness of PhotoFacials has provided some incredible information. Many times patients ask what the “long term” outlook for using laser treatments might be. We always answer truthfully that there are no long term studies beyond 5 or so years. Well, the first 10 years study which focused on how skin reacts to PhotoFacials is in and the results are profound.
“The study actually concluded that patients who receive 2-3 PhotoFacials every year can actually reverse signs of aging and “prevent” future aging as well”.
We’ve seen this in our own practice as well and in South Florida, with our year around sun exposure, nearly every single patient should be receiving PhotoFacials 2-3 times per year to remove tired sun damaged skin, broken capillaries, to improve skin tone & texture and now as this study demonstrated, reverse the signs of aging.

A new 10 year study out of Stanford University reveals that just 2-3 PhotoFacial treatments per year can restore the gene expression of aged skin to resemble much younger skin. Results: Over 1,000 gene expressions became “rejuvenated” to be more like youthful skin resulting in decreased elastosis and more uniform collagen deposition; leading to improvements in fine wrinkles and pigmentation.
In other words, PhotoFacials can do more than repair signs of aging like sun damage; it can prevent their occurrence in the future, turning back the hands of time and keeping them there. BBL stands for Broad Band Light & IPL is Intense Pulse Light is the type of laser energy that is delivered to the skin during a PhotoFacial. This laser energy absorbs hyperpigmentation, dramatically reduces small blood vessels and stimulates the skin to rejuvenate itself.
The study also shows clinical evidence that individuals who received regular PhotoFacial over a period of about 10 years maintained significantly younger-looking skin. In many of the photos presented from the study, the patients actually had more even-toned, younger-looking skin about a decade later than when they began the treatments.
The study is the longest term study ever completed proving the efficacy of PhotoFacials
