Skin Texture Treatments
Your skin’s texture and tone are closely related because they both determine how your skin looks. Skin texture refers to how smooth or coarse your skin is, and skin tone has to do with melanin or pigmentation. There are a variety of reasons why our skin can become dull or rough, and hyperpigmentation can be difficult to avoid. Below is more information about skin texture and tone, and how you can work to keep your skin looking youthful and smooth.
If you are tired of over-the-counter topicals that don’t seem to have much of an affect on your skin, it may be time to consider a treatment from the professionals. Non-invasive and minimally invasive treatment options are available at The Aesthetic Clinique from our skin care specialist Dr. Steven Weiner. Dr. Weiner has lectured the world over on anti-aging treatments, and you can visit him at his practice in Santa Rosa Beach. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
Skin texture/tone
If you run your fingers over your skin, you can immediately feel the texture. Babies have perfectly smooth skin because they haven’t been exposed to sun damage or other environmental factors. As we grow up and get older, different types of damage to our skin can cause the texture to become less and less smooth.
Dry, dehydrated skin can also become rough, so it is important to always wear sunscreen and use a good moisturizer. Sun damage is the main reason why men and women start to notice a problem with the texture of their skin. Repeated sunburns or tanning can cause your skin to become leathering and thick, and it also causes pigmentation issues.
Everything from acne to sunburns can cause hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. Unhealthy skin usually has patches of lighter or darker color, which can make your overall skin tone look dull and uneven. Skin that is all a healthy color can help you to appear bright and youthful. If you pair this with smooth skin texture you can achieve beautiful, healthy-looking skin.
Over-the-counter skin care products usually don’t have the desired effect on our skin. Either the results are minimal at best, or you end up spending a fortune trying to find a product that works well for your needs. At The Aesthetic Clinique, Dr. Weiner offers many different options when it comes to correcting skin texture and tone. Our educated staff can help you find the right treatment or combination of treatments to help you look your best.
We offer treatments from non-invasive peels, facials, and laser treatments, to minimally-invasive treatments like microneedling. Find out which one is right for you by visiting our practice in Santa Rosa Beach. It’s never too late to achieve healthy, vibrant skin! Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
Sciton Halo
The Halo is a revolutionary “hybrid” laser which can be used for multiple purposes. It is called hybrid because it combines an ablative Erbium (2940nm) laser with nonablative 1470nm laser. Using this combination, the Halo is able to maximize the results while minimizing the downtime and wound care.
The Halo is able to treat the following conditions:
- Pigmentation
- Precancerous lesions (Actinic Keratosis)
- Mild to moderate wrinkles
- Mild to moderate scarring
- Sun damage
- Enlarged pores
- Dull skin appearance
The procedure is commonly performed on the face, neck, and chest, but is also indicated for many other parts of the body including hands, legs, arms, and abdominal area. It can be combined with other procedures such as:
- BBL (Broad Band Light) for improved pigment control
- Genius (RFM) for skin tightening
- Dermal Fillers
- Subcision for acne scars
The procedure on the face takes about 30 minutes and the neck and chest take about 15 minutes each. There will be a burning/hot sensation for up to a couple hours. For the first 24 hours, it is best to stay at home and apply the skincare recommended by our office. After that, it should be appropriate to venture out of the house and resume near normal activities. The skin will begin to peel at day 3 and will fully peel by day 5. Areas other than the face will take longer to peel, with the extremities taking the longest at about 10 days.
The laser is designed to treat the superficial skin (epidermis) as well as the deeper skin (dermis). Collagen will be created from the Halo and should be fully recognized at 12-16 weeks. A second or third procedure might be needed to achieve the desired results. As with any laser procedure, more aggressive settings will achieve better results but have more downtime as well. Darker skin types can be treated but only with lower settings.
Potential rare side effects are:
- Prolonged healing
- Infection
- Scarring
- Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
- Worsening of melasma
- Results not up to expectations
Your treatment options can also include chemical peels, SkinPen and Tixel
